The ‘soft launch’ phase of the SA8000 Database and Unified Audit Tool for certified organizations, auditors, and other stakeholders will soon come to a close as we approach the platform’s official launch this April 1, 2021. To date, more than 4,000 organizations have registered and over 1,800 have taken their SA8000 Self-Assessment using the platform. All accredited SA8000 certification bodies have established their offices on the platform and auditors have received training and started using the new audit tool.
Next Steps
Full Launch for Certified and Potential SA8000 Organizations
Beginning in April 2021, all SA8000 audits (excluding Stage-1 and Follow-up Reviews) will be performed using the new audit tool and all organizations certified or seeking certification to SA8000 must register on the platform.

Incorporating Access for Brands and other Stakeholders
Within the next few months, SAI will introduce processes for brands and other stakeholders to register and access the platform. This will allow SA8000-certified organizations to connect with stakeholders directly and share certification and audit data at their own discretion.

Launching a Public Data Portal
This is a significant advancement for the SA8000 system. Once the database is operational in April, all SA8000 certification data will be recorded in a consistent format, maintained in a centralized location, and updated in real-time for the first time in SA8000’s history. Based on these developments, we look forward to launching a public data portal in the coming months that will make it easy for anyone to search for SA8000-certified suppliers, confirm the validity of an SA8000 certificate, and see general system-wide data. (In the meantime, you can still access the full SA8000 certification list—updated quarterly—on the SAAS website).
