SAI Consultant Registry

Consultants Start Here

The SAI Consultant Registry is your opportunity to join a public list of consultants and trainers who offer social accountability-related services and demonstrate a baseline level of relevant training and experience. The registry brings visibility to Registered Consultants’ services and helps certification systems (such as SA8000), companies, and others identify experienced professionals to support social performance improvement.

Who can apply?

If you believe you meet, or will meet within 2 years, the eligibility criteria to become an SAI Registered Consultant, you may apply to be added to the registry. Before registering, you must meet the eligibility criteria in the document below. Please also review the Consultant Code of Conduct, as you will be required to agree to it during the application process.

Status Levels

In-Review

After you apply, until HAP approves your application, you are “In-Review” and cannot communicate about your status or involvement in the registry.

Applicant

Once HAP approves your application, you are given the status “Applicant,” and will be listed as such in the public registry. At this point, you may communicate your status and your intent to reach full registration as an SAI Registered Consultant.

If your application is approved without all eligibility criteria (e.g., haven’t taken SAI Consultant Course or do not yet have required experience), you may choose to retain your Applicant status for up to two years while you attempt to fulfill the remaining requirements. If you do not meet the criteria within two years, your profile will be removed from the platform and you will need to reapply once all requirements for Registered Consultant status are met.

Registered Consultant

To attain “Registered” status, you will need to: 1) have the necessary years of experience and/or projects (e.g. experience implementing SA8000 or ISO in multiple organizations over a period of time, other consultant projects), and 2) complete both the SA8000 Basic and SAI Consultant courses.

Completing all trainings does not guarantee status as a Registered Consultant

Steps to Apply

The steps for becoming formally registered are:

  1. Application

Interested applicants who have at least three years of relevant experience and meet the eligibility criteria in the document above should complete the online application.

    Application Fee: $250 USD

  2. Verification

SAI and HAP will verify the application and determine whether the applicant meets all eligibility criteria and is ready to undergo training. If applicant does not meet the specified criteria or more information is needed, SAI will reach out to discuss possible next steps.

  3. Training

All verified applicants must go through the SA8000 Basic course to receive Applicant status. Accepted Applicants will have taken the SA8000 Basic course and met all other eligibility requirements. Once available, consultants will take the SA8000 Consultant course.

  4. Registered Consultant

Consultants who meet all criteria for Applicant status and additionally complete the SA8000 Consultant course (when it becomes available) will be listed as Registered Consultants.

What Consultants Should Know Before Registration

What is the SAI Consultant Registry?

SAI Consultant Registry is a public registry of consultants and trainers offering social accountability related services. Registered consultants are those who demonstrate a baseline level of relevant training and experience with management systems and integrating worker voice. The registry brings visibility to social consulting services, helping SA8000 and other social system organizations identify experienced professionals to support their social performance improvement.

How do I apply to become an SAI Registered Consultant?

Interested consultant applicants can apply for registration through the online system and should look over the steps to become a registered practitioner.

The application is your opportunity to demonstrate that you meet the required criteria. Prepare to provide training certificates, work history, and other relevant background information. You will be able to save your progress and return to the application as needed.

There is a $250 fee to apply, plus a $150 annual fee. These fees cover the costs of verification and maintaining the online system. There is a fee of $750 to take the Consultant training course, once it is available (contact [email protected] for more information).

Why should I apply to become a Registered Consultant?

Registration is an extremely valuable process for all social stakeholders. The program will deliver tangible benefits for consultants, certified organizations, buyers/brands, and workers. The SAI Consultant Registry will identify and highlight consultants who look beyond compliance, utilize an integrated approach, and see the value in management systems. For you, this program will provide:

  • Public recognition of relevant qualifications and experience on the Consultant Registry
  • Opportunities to share experiences, challenges, and learnings with SAI and peers – and to learn from the experience of others
  • Access to continuing education courses and tools to grow your skills
  • Discounts for SA8000 Basic/Advanced Auditor Training Courses
  • Regular promotion of the benefits of using an SAI registered SA8000 Consultant by SAI
