We are excited to share an early version of the new public data portal, supported by the SA8000 database that makes it easy for anyone to search for SA8000-certified suppliers, confirm the validity of an SA8000 certificate, and see general system-wide data. This public data portal reflects changes to organization information, including updates from completed audits, in real time. This tool will eventually become the official SA8000 certification list (currently updated quarterly and available on the SAAS website) once all data migration into the SA8000 database is complete. We look forward to updating you on any developments in the coming months.
SA8000 Database
The SAI Database was launched in April of 2020 for registration, Self-Assessments, and Maturity Declarations. The uniform SA8000 Audit Tool was then required for use a year later, in April of 2021. This year, over 6,000 organizations have registered on the platform and 2,500 have completed their Self-Assessments. Within the last few months, over 1,000 audits have been completed using the SA8000 Audit Tool. The success of the rollout of these processes adds significant value for all SA8000 stakeholders. In the next phase of this process, buyers and related stakeholders will be able to register on the Database and connect directly with certified companies. The development of the database is still ongoing, but is expected significant progress in upcoming months.
SA8000 Consultant Registry
SAI is also working to launch a new SA8000 consultant registry program, an effort that strives to bring new transparency and professionalism to social compliance consulting and capacity building activities. This program is a partnership with the supply chain technology company, HAP, which will create a public registry of consultants and trainers offering SA8000-related services who demonstrate a baseline level of relevant training and experience. This program will bring visibility to SA8000 consulting services and will help SA8000-certified and applicant organizations identify experienced professionals to support their social performance improvement.
