Social Auditing and SA8000 Module Courses Released
 
 
SAI is pleased to announce that the new SA8000 Introduction and Basic Social Auditing Course is now being delivered! From September 1, 2015 the course is now updated and all inclusive of SA8000:2014 changes. As noted in the previous announcement of the new course structure, the updated course now takes a Modular Approach, so that our increasingly diverse audiences can tailor the training for their needs:
 
Module 1: Introduction to Social Auditing (3-day)
This Module will teach students how to apply methods and techniques to plan and conduct a Social Responsibility audit. Through formal presentation, class discussion, case studies, group exercises, and virtual tours of facilities, this course has the following learning objectives:
  • To communicate clearly &effectively with personnel at all levels of an organization, including workers
  • To apply methods and techniques to gather, evaluate & triangulate satisfactory objective evidence to determine the conformance of a system designed to meet the audit criteria
  • To Generate accurate, appropriate and comprehensive audit findings and conclusions
  • To be able to plan and conduct a social accountability audit
Module 2: Introduction to SA8000 (2-day)
This module will teach students the principles of SA8000 and how to use tools, including Social Fingerprint, to plan and conduct an SA8000 audit. Through formal presentation, class discussion, case studies, group exercises, and virtual tours of facilities, this course has the following learning
objectives:
  • To understand SA8000 principles, its origin, intent and structure
  • To recognize SA8000 and its relationship to other codes and standards
  • To strengthen social compliance auditor skill sets such as worker interviews, triangulation of objective evidence and NCR writing
  • To have thorough knowledge and understanding of the tools of SA8000 for auditors, including Social Fingerprint and the 10 categories of Management Systems
  • To be able to plan and conduct an SA8000 Management Systems audit
Combined, Module 1 & 2 account for the 5day SA8000 Introduction and Basic Social Auditing course. After completion of the 5day course and passing the final exam, participants will receive the SA8000 Basic Course Completion Certificate for Auditors. At this time, there is no pre-requisite for Module 1, but there will be an online pre-requisite included later this year. The pre-requisite for Module 2 will be Module 1, meaning all participants who wish to take Module 2 must have taken Module 1. For those who wish to obtain the SA8000 Course Completion Certificate are required to take Module 2 within 12 months of passing Module 1. Typically, these two courses will be held together to accommodate the needs of potential SA8000 Auditors who wish to be qualified, therefore they will be conducted as the 5-day SA8000 Introduction and Basic Social Auditing Course.
