Rosy Blue Diamonds: 2011 CSR Report [excerpt]

On December 1, 2011, SAI Corporate Programs member Rosy Blue Diamonds released its 2011 CSR report, which highlights its work with SAI's SA8000 Standard and Social Fingerprint Program (see excerpt). The report focused on its two factories in China and Thailand that went beyond the minimum to meet living wage requirements.

Project Cultivar: Final Report on Impact Released
The results are in on SAI's Project Cultivar in Central America. In August 2011, SAI issued Project Cultivar's final report, chronicling its work to advance labor rights in the agricultural sector, in partnership withCIAC, INCAP, PASE and CDH, and supported by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Consumer Demand for Fair Labor Standards
"Consumer Demand for Fair Labor Standards," assesses consumer demand for goods that are certified as produced in decent workplaces. From experiments conducted on eBay between 2007 and 2008, researchers from Harvard and Stanford found encouraging evidence that a products label with a decent work certification has a positive effect on price and sales.

From Principles to Practice: The Role of SA8000® in Implementing the UN Global Compact
This publication features six case studies of companies from around the world that use SA8000 as a tool to meet their UNGC commitments. Companies profiled in this are: Beraca (Brazil), Rosy Blue Diamond (Thailand), Sabaf (Italy), TDE (Bolivia), TNT Express (Argentina), and Yesim (Turkey). These case studies illustrate the usefulness of voluntary standards in advancing all aspects of good corporate citizenship in a variety of business ventures and environments.  They also provide a strong case for the business benefits of responsible conduct in terms of improved sales, employee satisfaction, community relations, as well as brand and industry reputation.
